Factors That Affect Prices of Building Materials in Nigeria

Location – This is a common factor that affects the prices of building materials in Nigeria. The price of materials in Ekiti state would definitely be cheaper than the price of materials in Lagos and Abuja respectively. This, however, doesn’t apply to all building materials in Nigeria, as nearness to wholesalers plays a huge role.

For example, if there are no cement factories/depots in Taraba state, it would take more cost to transport them from their point of production (e.g Ogun state). This extra cost would be borne by the end user.

Product Quality – Quality is also a factor that affects the prices of building materials in Nigeria. In choosing the right building material, quality should not be compromised. The price of quality materials vary from their cheap substitutes by far, sometimes double the price, other times far more or less. In the long run, you would get value for money when you purchase quality materials. Unfortunately for us in Nigeria, a large number of end users do not care about the quality of a product.

Brand – The brand name associated with a product also goes a long way in affecting the price of that product. The fact that a brand costs higher than another brand only goes to say that one brand has been in the business of producing quality products over the years and hence, can regulate its own price to be higher. However, it doesn’t downplay the quality of the other brands in competition.
