Ordinary Portland Cement(OPC)

This is the most commonly available type of cement in Nigeria as it used for everyday construction activities.

It is suitable for all general construction. It is also the most widely produced as it is used in the production of concrete.

The other types of cement used in the Nigerian built environment are listed below.

Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC)

When you are looking for a concrete surface prone to chemical attacks as a result of activities within a space, this is your go-to cement. PPC is a mixture of Portland cement and grounded pozzolanic clinker, hence the name.

It is suitable for marine works, sewage works, and all works associated with water.


Rapid Hardening Cement

Just like its name, the rapid hardening cement has the ability to attained a high strength within a short lead time, unlike the ordinary Portland cement. It contains increased lime content and finer ground particles, which gives greater strength development than OPC at an early stage.

This increases the construction rate, as formwork can be removed earlier. It is used mainly in road construction works, as well as prefabricated works.


White Cement

It is a type of ordinary Portland cement, prepared from raw materials free from Iron oxide. It is usually white in color and more expensive than OPC.

In architecture, white cement is used for works such as precast curtain wall and facing panels, terrazzo surface, etc.

Furthermore, it is used for interior and exterior decorative works.

Works such as external renderings of buildings, facing slabs, floorings, ornamental concrete products, paths of gardens, swimming pools, etc.
